GARY | To reduce the burden on local hospital emergency rooms and jails, a local mental-health agency this week opened a new facility to provide “rapid access” to adults with mental illnesses.
Edgewater Behavioral Health Services unveiled its Rapid Access Center on Tuesday in Gary. The new facility, which opens Wednesday, is comparable to what an urgent-care center is to the medical field, providing crisis-stabilization services for people with mental-health or substance-abuse problems.
“We want to keep people out of jail if it’s unnecessary, or out of the emergency room if it’s unnecessary, because those services are very costly,” said Dr. Danita Johnson Hughes, president and CEO of Gary-based Edgewater Behavioral Health Services. Click Here for the Full Article.
