mental health care needs that had previously gone unmet. Edgewater’s Rapid Access Center, on 24th Avenue, opened with an official ribbon cutting on Tuesday. Dr. Danita Johnson Hughes, President and CEO of Edgewater Systems, says the RAC program is the only one of its kind in Indiana. Dr. Michael MGee, Medical Director of Methodist Hospitals Emergency Services, says the new Edgewater facility will fill needs not necessarily suited for the Emergency Room. Edgewater’s RAC program provides immediate response to adults experiencing a psychiatric crisis including depression, intrusive behaviors or extreme thoughts of suicide or harm to others. Potential clients must be willing to voluntarily admit to the program. The center operates 24/7 and has an immediate Psychiatric Care Clinic and a Short-term Crisis Residential Unit.
