On October 19, partnered with YWCA of Northwest Indiana, Edgewater Health will host “Centering Survivors” with our very own Dr. Dewnzar Howard-Jones serving as the speaker for the evening. During the presentation, Dr. Howard-Jones will address the health effects associated with violent occurrences and the trauma many victims experience.
October 17-22 is Week Without Violence, a nationally recognized campaign to end violence against women and girls. Violence in its many forms can affect the health of the individuals targeted, the perpetrators and the communities in which both reside. It is important to bring domestic violence to the forefront to raise awareness, advocate for change and encourage victims to speak out for help!
Our very own Jonathan Cavanaugh, Director of Family & Youth Services, served as a representative for Edgewater for the Lakeshore Public Radio show Regionally Speaking in recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The month is used to shift public perception, spread hope and share vital information to people affected by suicide. On Regionally Speaking, we will speak with advocates and clinicians to ensure that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help.
The interview discusses suicide and suicidal ideation, and some people might find it disturbing. We acknowledge that this content may be difficult. I also encourage you to care for your safety and well-being. Dr. Deborah McCullough will be providing seniors with healthy heart tips. Her overall approach to helping patients live healthier lives is rooted in honesty and open communication. Dr. McCullough specializes in family medicine and women’s health at the new Edgewater Health Cedar Lake Clinic.
Dr. Danita Johnson, CEO of Edgewater Health, will co-present a talk on “The Behaviorally-Led Primary Care Practice: Addressing Six Key Elements For Successful Integration” on Thursday, September 1 at the 2022 Open Minds Management Best Practices Institute in Newport Beach, California. This national conference is designed to educate healthcare leaders on management best practices and competencies. According to the Open Minds website, “The institute goes past theory and policy — and provides a deep dive into the field-tested management best practices needed for sustainability and success.”
Dr. Johnson will be presenting with three colleagues.
Children and their families are invited to tour Edgewater Health’s new family medicine clinic, as well as meet the clinic providers, on Saturday, August 13 from 11 a.m. – 2p.m., 9855 Lincoln Plaza Way, Cedar Lake.
As part of the tour, the first 50 families will receive a free backpack filled with complimentary school supplies. The event is sponsored by I-HOPE, Anthem, Managed Health Services (MHS) and First Financial Bank.
