Everybody’s talking about it. What’s the latest news on the coronavirus and what can I do to stay safe?
Well, for starters you can watch this space for the latest news on the COVID-19 pandemic. Edgewater Health cares about the community and the people we serve, so in the interest of health and safety, we will present accurate information about the state of the health emergency, as well as practical guidance on preventive measures.
Do:
- Stay Informed: Nothing spreads faster during a pandemic than fake news and gossip. Be sure to stay abreast of the latest developments, but also be sure to get that information from trusted and credible news sources. Network news and print media are reliable sources, as are local governments, health departments, hospitals, and doctors.
- Wash Your Hands: Be sure to establish and maintain strict sanitary measures. Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer in lieu of washing. Cover your nose and mouth with your sleeve and cough or sneeze into your elbow. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with your bare hands. Stay clear of others who are coughing, sneezing, or showing symptoms of illness.
- Be Smart: Be sure to observe health alerts and warnings issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or local health departments. Follow safety directions and advise your family and others to do likewise. Avoid large groups and curtail social gatherings and travel as advised. Be particularly cautious if you are elderly, have previous health conditions, or have family, friends, or loved ones who do.
Don’t:
- Panic: The coronavirus may be a pandemic, but it doesn’t have to be fatal. Paying attention to the latest news and health alerts, while following safety instructions and practical advice from health professionals will help protect you and your family from harm.
- Get Frustrated: Stores may run out of hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes, but soap and water works just as good. Your primary care physician or health clinic may be booked solid and test kits may run short, but appointments will become available and pharmaceutical companies are ramping up production and more test kits are on the way. Remember we have dealt with pandemics before and together we’ll survive the COVID-19 pandemic as well.
- Forget to Take Care of Yourself: Being there for your loved one means you have to make sure that you are taking care of yourself first. Anxiety can be exhausting and stressful and maddening. The best way you can help your loved one is to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. So stay informed, follow directions, wash your hands, and above all, stay calm!
